Why deep condition? Deep conditioning is a great way to put moisture back into the hair, strengthen elasticity, and helps with overall health of your hair and scalp. I personally deep condition my hair every week after I wash it. It has been a vital part of my regimen, preventing dryness and breakage from occurring.

1. When deep conditioning make sure your hair is washed. The reason for deep conditioning on cleansed strands is because it lifts the cuticle allowing for maximum penetration and rids the hair of any product build up that would otherwise prevent the deep conditioner from penetrating,

2. Apply a deep conditioner that contains ingredients such as, coconut oil, olive oil, or avocado oil. These three oils are the only oils that can actually penetrate the hair shaft. Also if you’re not protein sensitive you can look for any one of these proteins here to help strengthen the hair. Hydrolyzed protein is amongst the popular ones.

3. Cover it with a shower cap or plastic bag and add heat. Adding heat will open up the cuticle and allow the deep conditioner to deeply penetrate. Allow the deep conditioner to stay on for at least 15 minutes. For better deep conditioning leave it on for 30 minutes or longer. Some ways to get heat are from a warm wet towel, table top hooded dryer, or blow dryer . If you can’t use heat make sure to leave on the deep conditioner for at least 30 minutes or even over night.

4. Rinse off deep conditioner with cold water. Rinsing with cold water will close the hair’s cuticle which will help the strands retain all the moisture and good stuff!

Two of my favorite deep conditioners are Camille Rose Naturals Blue Algae Conditioning Mask and Honey Child Olive you. I like to add a few drops of rosemary oil when I’m applying my deep conditioner. You can also use oils by themselves to do a deep treatment.
