If your like me and  you scan the back of every hair product to check out the ingredients, then you may have come across this word “panthenol”. What in the heck is that, right? I need to know because that ish is in my Giovanni Direct Leave-in Conditioner! It’s also in a few other products that I can’t name off the top of my head right now.

This is what I found. Panthenol is non toxic and can be found in many skin care, hair, and cosmetic products. Panthenol is a derivative of vitamin B5 also known as pro-vitamin B5. It is small enough to penetrate through the cuticle of the hair. It is highly hygroscopic chemical, which means it acts as a humectant attracting water to itself. It helps the hair retain moisture in the cortex and on the surface. It coats and seals in moisture. It strengthens the hair shaft as well as thickens the strands. It also imparts shine and reduces slit ends.

Yeah…baby!!! Panthenol is a keeper! :)
