Today I have the honor of attending a special event at the UN Headquarters (United Nations) for What You Wish For, a fantastic book benefiting an important literary cause: bringing libraries to the refugee camps in Chad that are home to more than 250,000 refugees from Darfur, most of them children. I will be attending it with my soon to be mother in-law ;). Her long time friend Lorraine Kleinwaks and her son Logan Kleinwaks
President of Book Wish Foundation made this all possible and I wanted to thank them. While the event at the UN earlier today is invite only, I want encourage everyone in NY to come out to the book signing which is open to the public, and buy a book to support this wonderful cause this evening Oct. 17 from 7-9pm at Books of Wonder (18W. 18th St.). If you aren’t able to attend you can still purchase the book at this link —>What You Wish For

Via Imagine growing up without books. The children of Darfur are facing this sad reality as they grow up in refugee camps in Africa. To help change this, some of the world’s best-selling and most highly honored writers for young adults and children have contributed stories and poems that captivate, inspire, and offer hope about things we all wish for in What You Wish For — an incredible new collection that will raise money to fund libraries in Darfur refugee camps in Chad. Join us Monday, October 17th, as we welcome seven of the contributors to this great cause and fantastic collection of tales and verse. So don’t miss your chance to meet New York Times bestseller JEANNE DUPRAU (City of Ember), Newberry Award-winner KAREN HESSE (Out of the Dust), Newbery Honor author and creator of the best-selling “Baby Sitters Club” ANN M MARTIN (A Corner of the Universe), Newbery Honor and three-time National Book Award finialist MARILYN NELSON (Carver: A Life in Poems), author/artist NATE POWELL (Any Empire), author SOFIA QUINTERO (Divas Don’t Yield), and best-selling master of the children’s thriller R.L. STINE (Goosebumps, Fear Street). Beginning at 7pm this wonderfully talented cast of authors will speak about their contributions to this new book and why they chose to participate, take questions from the audience, and sign copies of all their wonderful works. Ages 8 and up. 7-9pm.
