Quinoa: ”a grain-like crop grown primarily for its edible seeds. It is a pseudocereal rather than a true cereal, or grain, as it is not a member of the true grass family. As a chenopod, quinoa is closely related to species such as beets, spinach and tumbleweeds.” (-wikipedia)
Belonging to a class all of its own this imposter of a grain has the highest protein content of all whole grains, providing all 9 essential amino acids, this “pseudocereal /grain” is a actually a complete protein. Vegan or gluten intolerant… gluten and cholesterol free, quinoa is not only high in protein but fiber and iron as well, quinoa is a great substitute for those who choose to eliminate any sources of animal based products such as meat and dairy from their diet.
Now we all know quinoa can be substituted in a plethora of traditional and non-traditional dinner recipes but have you ever thought about desserts? Well if the answer is no, below are some of my favorite dessert recipes from the Queen of Quinoa, who shows us a new way to think about this super power “grain”.
