As I embark on my fitness journey, I have been discovering the importance of mental motivation…without it, there is no and I mean NO fitness journey.

I have been running for the past two weeks and I just hit my first personal milestone when I completed 1.5 miles non-stop yesterday (using the pranayama breathing technique), which was a goal that I did not think I would be able to conquer at least until a month from now. I think what motivated me not to stop was a conversation I had with my boyfriend when he asked what made me stop running to take walking breaks, and I was like, um because I am tired…OBVIOUSLY, but then something he mentioned hit home;  ”I see you come home from work and spend hours and hours working on your site then nod off at the computer and refuse to go to sleep till you are done, so are you stopping out of convenience or because you are really tired. You have to push yourself because what you interpret as exhaustion is really you overcoming that voice within that is telling you to stop” Then once I really, seriously took the time to think about it, I thought “well maybe I am stopping out of convenience, I wasn’t in any serious pain, exactly why was I stopping”, so yesterday I pushed and pushed and pushed until I reached the finish line.

Yesterday also was another personal milestone because it was raining and for the first time I did something I thought I would never do…I ran in the rain by choice, albeit I did wear a plastic bag over my hair, lol. For those of you who know my personal relationship with rain and natural hair then you know we are certainly not the best of friends and more like divorcees,  the rain can be tolerated but in love, not really, but I decided even the mighty force of Mother Nature couldn’t deter my plans.  Though I have to admit, when she pulled out the big guns and it started thundering, I was like “I am done”.

Going outside of my comfort zone I accomplished a personal goal and realized not only did I like running in the rain but I underestimated the full potential of my physical strength, because I did not push myself enough mentally. Here are some of my favorite inspirational quotes to help you reach your own personal fitness milestones and continue my own.
