Thank you so much Vanessa, your support is appreciated -Nikisha
Wow it was so good reading about your Beautiful hair and care on Black Girl Long Hair! and I’m just loving what you said in the final paragraph, tis so inspiring! “Let no man pull you low enough to hate him”.
Thank you Elam. You really can’t get much better then the King! Martin that is, lol. Following his words of wisdom really puts your state of mind in a whole new enlightening arena. Thank you again
I would just like to say how inspirational this video clip is. Today I spent hours detangling my hair and I said to myself ” I quit”. I have been natural for over two yrs. The length coupled with the density is leaving me at a loss for what to do. This is the first I’ve seen a woman with hair that looks and responds the way mine does. Good thing my arms were too tired to shave my head and I clicked on this link today. Nice blog ladies.
Adrienne I completely understand. I am not here to delude anyone, the curlier, longer and thicker your strands are the more time it will consume. It all boils down to what you are willing to deal with before it will drive you completely out of your mind, lol.
Thank you Adrienne. Cipriana inspires me too
Nikisha thank you beautiful!!!
Thank you so much, ladies! (Both of you have FANTASTIC hair, by the way. I’m dealing with a bout of jealousy over here.)
My husband and I -both white- adopted a gorgeous baby girl and I found myself jumping into the wonderful world of natural black hair care. I have a feeling that your website and information is going to be gold! Granted, our dollbaby is only one year old and QUITE wiggly so I might have to modify things a little…
I have one request: Cipriana, could you give me an idea as to the ratio of oils you use in your mix? Thanks!
Thank you very much Kristi and let me first say congratulations on your wiggly little beautiful blessing.
To answer your request, I use about a 1/2 cup of coconut oil, 1/4 th cup of jojoba oil, 3 tbsp of extra virgin olive oil, 1 teaspoon of castor oil and 3 to 4 drops of rosemary oil
That sounds like a great mix. Kristi if you are thinking about using this on your young wiggly some time in the future please eliminate the essential oil. Even in small amounts very small children can have reactions. Wait until she is older and do some research on EO’s that are safer for little ones like Mandarin, etc. Good for you for getting information early.
Lovely site ladies.
Hello, thank you so much Your absolutely right there are many essential oils that are not safe for babies or young childern but rosemary along with mandarin is actually listed as safe especially since the small amount is being diluted by large quantities of natural oils which is the key element. Also regardless of the type of essential oil it should always be diluted. My mother used diluted rosemary on my hair as a child with no reaction but unfortunately some childern may have a reaction or allergy similar to some who may have reactions to certain foods. A good book for you to pick up Kristi is Shirley Price’s book, Aromatherapy for Babies and Children.
Thanks SO much!
Thank you so much. I have a son and I had to learn how to take care of his hair myself. My mom is white and I wasn’t raised knowing how to take care of curly hair, although she did the best she could. I’m so glad that we are able to help you.
hey I love this video!
But it would be awesome if you’d write down under it all the products you named.
Other than that I love it and you both have gorgeous hair!
Thank you so much and also for the tip!
Thanks for this video, I just watched it with my 4 year old daughter she said “mommy I like the girl with the snuggie” lol. I am not sure who she is talking about but you both have great hair! I have been natural for almost 5 years now (since I was preggo) and I am just learning why it’s so important to detangle my hair before washing and honestly the results are amazing! Thanks again and I will be following this blog daily!
Thank you for your support Allegra, your daughter sounds precious.
Lol that is too cute. I’m so glad you were able to watch the video with your daughter. This makes me smile. I hear you on the detangling before washing. Really has made my regimen easier! Thank you for your support
Hi C&N (hmmm….CNN)!
Wonderful vid, y’all have wonderful rapport! This reminded of In Living Color’s Men on Film skits, too funny! Cipriani, you are my hair saviour!! I’ve been in chasing my tail in the wilderness dealing with my 4c head (almost thought it was a 5 or unclassified) because no matter what I tried it would just laugh. Thanks for being Moses, providing the way to the promised land!!!
*Cipriana, sorry for the hack job , it’s a bit late for a sista…
Hey Bellezakrj it is late but no apologies, (What hack job? You are hilarious) you have me rolling, lol. The Men on Film is one of my favorite skits from In Living Color (I actually referenced it in a future video). Nikisha and I are so excited to begin this journey with everyone and yes I will standup as a 4c and shed some light on healthy hair growth. Wow you still have me laughing. Thank you so much and blessings
What a compliment, I luv, luv, luv “In Living Color” HELLO! Thank you
You guys are Hilarious love the blog and I am definitely book marking and passing it on.
Thank you so much for the support! Smooches!
Thank you so much, your support is golden
BRAVO! I love your hair – both of you. I am a natural sister finishing up my last month of law school. I only recently started growing my hair after keeping it brush short for 15 years or more. I LOVE it. It is lovely hair, but because it is kinky nappy curly hair, it seems to beckon comments by “folks”. I LOVE it and I take great pride in explaining my do.
By the way, I read your bios. You are BOTH talented and wonderful. I used to model many, many moons ago and my issue was the makeup more than the hair.
Thank you but first congrats (hand clapping)!!! Law school no easy feat! Yes you should take pride and I love that you do in your hair! I am sure your hair is beautiful. Thank you for taking the time to read the bios and get to know us and I can tell by your comment you are beautiful and wonderful as well
Thank you to both of you on the congrats to me for my upcoming law school graduation the end of May 2011. Yes, it takes quite some effort. I look forward to more from you both.
Dang! Law school is no joke Law Girl, that’s inspiring! I’m so happy you embrace who you are, there is so much beauty in that. We support you, you go girl! And thank you for your kind words
I enjoyed the video! I am buying jojoba, castor, rosemary, extra virgin olive, and coconut oil for the hair moisturizer. But can you tell me how much of each of these oils need to be mixed together? How often do you moisturize your hair with this?
Thank you so glad you enjoyed!!! I use about a 1/2 cup of coconut oil, 1/4 th cup of jojoba, 3 tbsp of extra virgin olive, 1 teaspoon of castor oil and 3 to 4 drops of rosemary oil. I use all these oils when I detangle my hair every week. Then before I go to bed I will spray my hair while it is in an updo style with an olive oil spray before I place my scarf on each night
Thanks for the info….do you think its better to put the oils on at night rather than in the morning? I think I would prefer to put it on in the morning because it seems like putting the oil in my hair at night would just leave my pillow full of oil Also, is this the only thing you use for hair moisturizer or do you use this in addition to other moisturizing products?
Thank you ladies so much! I have a texture more like Cipriana’s and my niece who I’ve been caring for has a texture is more like Nikisha’s, so I’ve been trying to use the same stuff on her hair and it just weighs it down. I’m gonna be adding some new things to her regimen.
And Cipriana! OMG Thank you sooo much! Because I found that coconut oil did the same thing to my hair as well. So I’m gonna try mixing it too. Yay!! You are my new hair heroes!!!!
Thank you so much women like all of you inspire us daily. We feel so blessed that you feel this way and girl when I first tried coconut oil I was like huh??? This doesn’t work at all on my strands, lol but then I did some research saw I needed to mix the coconut. Thank you for taking the time to watch we will have many more!
I made the oil mixture and put it on my scalp for the first time this week, but I feel like my scalp has been itching more now that I have been using it as opposed to me putting nothing on my scalp (I normally do not grease my scalp, but my actual hair which I am sure is not good…)…is this normal…did it happen to you when you first started using the oil mixture??
Ladies, thank you so much for this. I’ve been natural for about 3 years with MBL 4a/b/c hair, and after washing yesterday, I was about to throw the towel in! I was either cut it or loc it up, because I just dont have the time to full with this mane like I used to. But I was really inspired by this and will try again. Hopefully my hair and I can learn to see eye to eye….fingers crossed LOL
And sorry for that big behind picture I just posted lol. I thought it
was going to be like my avatar, not a posted picture! That was a weave from 3 years ago when I was transitioning.. My hair looks like
Capriana’s. That just happened to be the only pic I had on this computer. Just an fyi…
I learned so much about moisturizing hair in the hair school I attended. It has saved my hair time and time again.
