“It’s really liberating to say no to shit you hate.” -Hannah
YES, you guessed it, season 3 of the critically-acclaimed series, ‘Girls‘ is back! Cordially invited by HBO, I had the chance to attended the premiere and after party of the 2014 Golden Globe nominated hit show, ‘Girls’, held at Lincoln Center Rose Theater. The premiere included viewing of episodes 1, 2 and 7 of season 3.
With the full cast back in effect, actresses Zosia Mamet, Jemima Kirke, Allison Williams and Girls Creator/Writer, Lena Dunham reprise roles Hannah, Marnie, Jessa and Shoshanna, who ferociously breath life into a familiarity that is ordain, yet strangely but comfortably unorthodox at the same time. I of course will not be flagged with a spoiler alert, though… there is a moment between Jemima’s character and actress, Danielle Brooks of ‘The Orange Is The New Black’ who take a scene to a place where you thought they would not go…but since it is ‘Girls’ you of course know they did, spinning the viewer into a whirlwind of a ride that you don’t want to end.

Speaking of whirlwind rides, lets discuss the after-party. Besides the gift bags filled with “girly” random goodies such as the super durable Henry Holland Suspender tights, Godiva chocolate, Cargo cosmetics, American Eagle‘s Aerie lingerie, Skyn Moisturizing cream and a travel size 3-D crossword puzzle called Zip-It by Bananagrams (I am already obsessed). The night also entailed the usual open bar and amazing buffet of food, which included the most delectable cheesy shrimp and grits my taste buds have ever experienced, but… all of that was almost overshadowed by the G train…yes, the G train. I kid you not, partial entryway of the event was overtaken with an exact life-size replica of the G line subway train…I could definitely tell this would be a night to remember.
Some of the other guests I spotted included ‘Girls’ Alex Karpovsky, Greta Lee, Danielle Brooks, ’Girls’ Executive Producers Jenni Konner & Judd Apatow, Andrew Rannells, Shiri Appleby, ‘Boardwalk Empire‘s Steve Buscemi and Margot Bingham, Veep‘s Anna Chlumsky, Parker Posey, Spike Jonze, Zadie Smith, Max Greenfield, Joel McHale, Anna Wintour, Zac Posen, Questlove, Tristan Wilds, Alysia Reiner, Nicky Hilton, Karlie Kloss and Hilary Rhoda. On the way out I also ran into Actor, Mark Boone Junior who plays ‘Robert Munson’ one of the leads in another favorite show of mine, ‘Sons of Anarchy‘ on FX, suddenly I had the urge to acknowledge his awesomeness, which he in return replied to my sister and I, “you are both awesome!”.
As I left the Lincoln Center to head home Bringing back the same je ne sais quoi with an extra bag of spice, lets just say you are in for an experience that hands down, unequivocally tops the previous seasons. The official back to back episode of‘Girls‘ airs this Sunday on HBO, January 12th, 10PM EST.
*Also later this week l will share an exclusive mini interview on the red carpet with ‘Girls’, Executive Producer, Jenni Konner that involves a bit of ‘Scandal’ and Actress, Danielle Brooks aka Tasha “Taystee” Jefferson of show ‘Orange Is The New Black’, who addressed past backlash of previous seasons of ‘Girls’ and what it means to be a woman of color on season 3.
