“This photo was taken with Q-Tip 6 years ago at the defunct Knitting Factory NYC location. I was performing that night and was so excited that Q-Tip came to see my show.
“I really appreciated that an artist of his caliber took the time to support an unknown talent. When I first started music I only rapped and I would go to any open mic, sign up and most of the time I’d be the last person when most of the people in attendance left but I didn’t care. I would perform for those 10 or 15 people like they were a crowd of 10,000 because it was important to give my all because those people took the time to stay and listen. Last year I performed in front of 500,000 people at a festival in Poland and it was SURREAL. This year I will be embarking on a three month summer tour performing throughout Europe and it always makes me think about my open mic days. Though I have so much more I want to achieve those days remind me of my tenacity and determination. Never give up. You only need to have one person believe in you…and that is yourself. If you work hard, hone your craft and believe in yourself others will start to take notice and believe in you as well. Keep striving.” -TK Wonder
