Fine Tooth Combing or Paddle Brushing for Kinky Textured Hair Anyone?  I just had to share this with all of you after viewing one of my favorite hair sites BGLHonline.com in which there was a post about the backlash on a series of videos about “How to take care and style African American Hair” by “Licensed” hairstylist JoAnn Robertson on Tyra Banks Type F YouTube channel http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sm9ezaSJm50&feature=player_embedded  or http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=omoDDCOgcQI&feature=player_embedded#! (click these links to view videos). To be honest the videos were very hard to watch as JoAnn, used a fine tooth comb vigorously on her strands and if that was not enough used a paddle brush as another option to aid in “flattening” her afro and should I dare say it but she also brushed FROM THE ROOTS!!!! It was almost like watching a horror movie, an oncoming train wreck or blind date that you absolutely had to leave or else one of you is not leaving alive. These videos exampled the perfect emblem of what not to do when implementing healthy natural hair care practices for kinky textured strands.  Now if this was a joke even though the manner of the situation seemed to point otherwise because of Tyra Banks’s Type F youtube team’s statement which reads as follows “Dear YouTube viewers, thank you for voicing your concern about one of the hairstyle playlists found on this channel. We have? disabled the set of videos in question and will have our editorial team review each one based on your feedback. If you have further concerns, please don’t hesitate to message us directly.” Then a disclaimer definitely needed to be noted in the videos (some people who are just starting out on their natural hair journey can be very impressionable). Also if this was a series of comical videos then this would be very amusing because she demonstrated everything you should not do for kinky textured hair. I loved her hair but the state of her hair definitely seemed to be damaged in certain areas which led me to agree with many of the ladies who made comments on BGLH’s site and YouTube’s comment section, if you are not pleased with a hairstylist’s own head of hair the hairstylist is most likely not the one for you!

Ladies what are your thoughts?
