Life in Austin has been freakin’ awesome!!! Since our move last December we’ve been blessed to make amazing new friends and we bought our first house!!! Jaden has even said that the kids at his school have been the nicest kids that he’s ever met (compared to when living in NYC and the DMV area). We have a wonderful church home at the Austin Stone which has an incredible youth ministry. Carl and I go to a crazy amazing couples group every other Friday evening where we are surrounded by beautiful transparent married couples in their 20’s-30’s. I have also joined a Bible study group which is made up of some of my new amazing friends, and Carl has started up his band and rehearses every week. I’ve been to one wedding so far and have another friends wedding coming up next month. Carl and I were also blessed with two platinum passes to go to SXSW and we will be attending again next year! We also saw the first X Games held in Austin and we will be going back next year for sure! And since becoming a home owner I have now taken on a new hobby of doing some DIY projects and renovations which I am excited to share with you guys!
So here’s the scoop on Austin after living here for 9 months and speaking with other folks who’ve lived here for years or their whole life: we have no complaints except for the traffic here sucks!!! It’s a city with a diverse mix of young people and young families from all over. A lot of the city is made up of college students who end up staying here after they graduate (hence why it has a high population of young people). There are always fun things to do. Some of the things that Carl and I love, are going to festivals, swimming at the swim holes, seeing bands play, and eating at an array of food trucks and restaurants. I personally love to go to the antique malls and vintage stores in and around Austin. We haven’t experienced any racism and have actually met the kindest people here. Our new neighbors even threw us a “get to know your neighbors get together” at their house. An older couple has taken Jaden and his neighborhood friend swimming, we’ve also had dinner with a young married couple across the street and have received house warming gifts welcoming us into the neighborhood. We have never had anything close to that between the 10 cities combined that Carl and I have lived in. I wanted to share some of my favorite spots and things I’ve done along with some of my awesome friends with you guys!
