How was Escort formed, describe the sound.
Escort was formed by 2 Vassar grads who met in college at an electronic music class, Eugene Cho and Dan Balis. They started DJing spinning rare old school disco records and quickly realized they should make their own music. I met them a few years later through a talented DJ/rapper friend Stimulus. Our sound is disco 2014 style with our own spin on it. It’s funky, fun and super danceable.
First memory of music?
I don’t really have one in particular. Music has always been there. My brothers and sisters were always singing, playing instruments, putting shows together. What would you say to those who don’t have the positive reinforcement of family or and friends when pursuing a passion? You only need 2 people to believe in you, you and and someone who is there to remind you that you believe in yourself. Not having strong support will only make you stronger. And if their lack of support upsets you, then use that to fight harder to prove them wrong.

Most embarrassing moments on stage
A failed attempt to cover “my prerogative” with my band in at the Cosmopolitan in Vegas. Seeing my bandmates sing the hook in harmony started the most violent laugh in me. I couldn’t even finish the first verse. I totally lost control. I laughed during the entire song. I kept playing the bass line though! The audience looked so confused, it was so embarrassing. We’ll never cover “My prerogative” again.
Describe your onstage fashion sense
Colorful, daring, edgy and fun. High fashion meets low budget, vintage meets modern, classy meets punk. I’m all about putting together things that would never look like they could be put together. And colors! Lots of colors!
Musically the decade you are most inspired by and why?
Is there a genre of music or an artist you would like to collaborate with that may surprise your fans?
Me and Tony Benett doing a Polka style squats battle
What two artists past or present would you love to see have musical babies?
Prince and Michael Jackson
Touring is very strenuous, do you have a regimen regarding food and/or exercise to help you stay energized.
Lots of water. I eat lots of fruits. I take vitamin C everyday. I’m very lucky because I sleep so well on planes and that really helps make up for short nights. In terms of exercise. I go for a run whenever I can, at the hotel gym or around the town.
If you could could spend the weekend with anyone (past or present) who would it be and why?
My boyfriend. I’m always gone on weekends!
What is the best piece of advice or life lesson you have learned regarding your work?
Practice is the only way to get better. There’s no secret. And if you play an instrument: ‘If you wanna play it fast, play it slow”. That works in all fields actually.
