What do you do? Is there a resistance or compatibility with your hair in your field of work?

I’m an artist. I’ve been asked not to cut my hair and I’ve been offered money to cut it as well. But I don’t care much for opinions.

Your best hair advice?

Don’t let it define you.

How long have you been natural?

13 years.

Describe your hair.

Free to be.

What is your hair regimen?

Less is more. I try to go to the beach as often as possible, I only shampoo, I retouch my dreads once a year, and about once a month I use lemon or lime with egg whites.

What is your usual go to style (hair)?

Get up and go or half up, half down.

What is your nighttime routine?

Your top three favorite products and why?

  • Fructis Shampoo, to strengthen.
  • Coconut oil, for after a beach day.
  • Lemon or lime with egg whites , to create a sort of natural gel.

If you could name one person from the past whose closet you would love to raid, who would it be?

Describe your style?

Depends on my mood and what I’m going through… It’s always a MIX of things that make me feel good. You will always find me wearing a high heel shoe, and when I’m not, it’s probably because I’m going to the beach.

First memory of music?

Singing “True Colors” in diapers.

What would you say to those who don’t have the positive reinforcement of family or and friends when pursuing a passion?

Even people who love you might not see and/or believe in you vision. When you accept and understand that, you save a lot of time.

Musically the decade you are most inspired by and why?

The 60′s Revolution! Without a doubt. That’s the time where through the arts people challenged and changed the rules.

If you could only pick 3 albums to listen to for the rest of your life, which 3 would it be?

SADE- Soldier of Love; Madonna- Bedtime Stories; La Lupe- Con el diablo en el Cuerpo. And I just can’t leave out Miles Davis – Blue in Green.

Do you remember your first live onstage performance and if so can you describe in 3 words what it was like?

Cathartic ; Honest; Home

Most embarrassing moments on stage.

One time in the middle of a song and in front of the audience, the production tried to cut my set short, because they were running behind schedule. I was so embarrassed, but more so, I was mad. So then I abruptly stopped the band and said I’m not leaving until I sing “Fever”! The crowd appreciated the honesty of the moment and showed love by cheering. So it worked out in the end.

Is there a genre of music or an artist you would like to collaborate with that may surprise your fans?

Jack White or Prince

Touring can be strenuous, do you have a regimen regarding food and/or exercise to help you stay energized.

I try to keep everything as balanced as possible. I try to work out at least 3 times a week. Drink lots of water, sleep 7-8 hours, and I regularly visit my chiropractor.
