I’m about a month and a half away from my wedding day! So I have quite a bit on my plate between taking care of Jaden, taking care of other family members, running errands, cooking, keeping a clean home, traveling to DC every weekend, work, meetings, wedding planning, looking for a new job in another state, and figuring out where we are moving after we get back. Trust me when I say it’s only God’s grace holding me together! And thank God for my fiance and my mother in-law being there for me and helping me arrange and plan everything!!! I don’t feel stressed and I’m very excited!!!
Carl and I have chosen to get married in Big Sur, California. We’ve never been to Big Sur, so you may ask, ” why the heck get married there?”. Well it started back when we were just friends getting to know each other and I had no clue I would marry him. We talked about how we both wanted to get married barefoot on a beach somewhere. Carl swims like a fish and surfs, I swim like a mermaid…lol… yeah right, I wish I looked that graceful! Anyway, I swim well and we’re always in a pool or in the ocean. We love the beach SO much that we plan on living near one in the future. So it’s only fitting that two creatures of the water get married on the beach. Here’s the BUT….I also have an affinity for the woods, our family hikes and bike rides through the trails every chance we get, and being surrounded by all the tall trees and the smells give me such a peace like I’m at home, just as the ocean does. So where in the world does the ocean meet the woods? Big Sur! And that’s how we decided on our location.
I am not a follower of tradition, however I am a follower of staying true to your nature, so there won’t be over 100 guests (sorry 2nd cousin who I haven’t spoken to in over a decade), bridesmaids, flower girls, a big poofy gown, wedding reception, etc…and sorry wedding industry you won’t be getting my money! Instead it’s very non traditional, with about 15 guests, a guitar player playing a Radiohead song on the beach, dinner at a old rustic restaurant, and then a small party at a beach front rental home. This wedding totally represents who Carl and I are, outdoor, active, nature loving, laid back, low key, no muss no fuss, creative, intimate, peaceful, don’t care for a lot of attention type of folks. Forget tradition! I am going to be a barefoot hippie princess on my wedding day who marries her rock star (Carl is a musician)! It’s our day and we are going to stay true to who we really are! What a way to start a new journey, with humble and honest beginnings!!!
Here are somethings I’ve collected over the year that have inspired me, you can call it a mood board. Step into my world if you will :).
