SLU (Style Like U): Can you talk about a favorite part of your body?
Kelsey Lu McJunkins: I feel a lot of strength in my hair. I grew up trying to make it straight. I begged my Mom to give me a perm because I wanted to fit in with everyone else. I grew up in the south and being interracial, having a white Mom and a black Dad was somehow weird! Kids would be chanting at me and be like your hair is frizzy and nappy and now I wish I would’ve have been like fu@k you!
The What’s Underneath Project
We’ve asked a select group of individuals to participate in a project in which they will remove their clothes to honor how style is not the clothes you wear.
It is comfort in your own skin.
It is not a facade.
It is your spirit.
It is what’s underneath.
