For my love Carl,
Happy one year wedding anniversary to my remarkable husband. I really couldn’t have dreamt you up if I tried. God definitely out did Himself and sent me His best. I hope you know the best years of my life started with you, and that you actually make me look forward to growing old because I know you’re by my side. I am beyond thankful to God for you.
We won’t be celebrating our anniversary today since it’s a work day and my hubby will be going to his men’s ministry meeting at church this evening. But God is so good, because we had no clue as to what we should do to celebrate. As our anniversary weekend approached we didn’t stress about it because we were just grateful for being married to each other. But then God did something amazing, AGAIN! We just found out that my mother in-law and father in-law were gonna be visiting from NYC and staying through the weekend, so they offered to watch our son Jaden while we head to Raleigh, North Carolina for a romantic weekend getaway. We will be going to a beautiful vineyard/winery, then we are going to the Sigur Ros concert in the evening. God is always on time and you never have to force what is meant to be. God will just make it happen for you if it’s in His will. I hope to take some photos as we explore Raleigh and share them with you guys. So stay tuned!
On another note, I have been blessed with many emails asking me to share “how I knew my husband was the one”, “how do I maintain a healthy relationship?” or asking “how do you know who is the right one to marry?”. Marriage first and foremost is a spiritual relationship. It works best when two people are connected individually to God, walking with Him, obeying Him in scripture, and praying as individuals and as a couple. If you push the spiritual dimension to the side, you are ignoring the very God who created marriage, the one who can help you make it work ( I want a Godly marriage). Marriage is much much bigger than just getting married for selfish reasons (this is why the divorce rate is so high). It is a union God designed to bring Him glory; for two are better than one (Ecclesiastes 4:9) and do not be unequally yoked (2 Corinthians 6:14). I will be sharing a post with you guys on “how to know if a guy is marriage material”. I will be using the Bible and a wonderful article I found to show you how you can find your Boaz :). Keep in mind, that as a woman you must be ready as well, by allowing God to prepare you. I know many women out there looking to get married but still have baggage and are in bondage to things that only God can heal and free you from if you diligently seek Him through reading scripture, walking in obedience to that scripture, and praying. Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need (Matthew 6:33)
On our wedding day we had a guitar player play our special song during the ceremony called Weird Fishes by Radiohead. This song is not only special to me because of that day, but because when Carl and I first started dating after being friends for some time, I asked him what song really spoke to his heart (music lovers) and it was the same song. That day I heard it, it gave me a glimpse of how he felt. The song is below
