Tell us your name and where you are from?

Marawa The Amazing, I am from Melbourne but I live in London

What do you do? Is there a resistance or compatibility with your hair in your field of work?

My Hair is definitely part of my image as a performer – It definitely helps!

What is the back story behind what you do, in terms of inspiration or how you started?

I studied at a Circus School in Australia – I really didn’t know what I was going to do after – I didn’t plan on becoming a performer all the shows that I had seen when I was younger or studying circus I didn’t enjoy- but after seeing some cabaret shows and things that I really enjoyed I realized that maybe it would be possible to make a career out of this.

What has been the most pivotal point of your career that you have been most proud or excited about?

Performing onstage with Olivia Newton John – rollerskating in a giant blonde afro, while she sung xanadu at the Mardi Gras. I cried.

Describe your hair?

Barely manageable! My mother is Australian but looks Irish – red hair and freckles. My father is Somali So pretty wiry hair. Mine is soft but so frizzy and just matts into a giant ball if I don’t comb it every day.

How long have you been natural?

Always!! ( well except for the color, lately I’ve been dying it a sort of orange but I’ve never touched the creamy crack.. though I’ve been tempted just to see what might happen – but all my friends that have used it scream NOOOO at me every time I’ve suggested it..

(Getting ready for Britain’s Got Talent Show)

What is your hair regimen?

Shower every morning and comb it out wet with lots of conditioner with a wide comb. Cold rinse then twist the excess water out then add leave in conditioner and then let it dry naturally! Which is hard in winter – but it doesn’t usually take too long if I air dry it, it just gets massive!

What is your best hair advice?

Krastase oleo curl or lately yes to carrots!! Shampoo once a week only

What is the strangest comment, request or hair story?

My geography teacher used to knit jumpers out of her dogs hair – she used to always tell me that if I ever cut all of mine off…

How would you describe your personal fashion style?

Nomad.

What advice would you give to people who might be afraid to show their true fashion for fear of being judged by others?

Oh don’t worry – we all judge – but just be comfortable!! If you want to wear it then do it! You won’t know how you feel unless you try and if people give you a hard time…surely they should have something better to de doing.

What would you say to others who judge individuals negatively for their personal fashion style?

Oh – they have too much time! Honestly – there are much more important things to be doing than worrying about if someone has put odd socks on.

When it comes to your style who, what or where does your inspiration come from?

I really like colorful outfits but find myself often wearing a lot of black – if I had more time I would dedicate it to sorting out my wardrobe – but it’s hard when you are travelling a lot – you have to be realistic! Light wash and a dark wash!

If you could name one person from the past whose closet you would love to raid, who would it be?

JOSEPHINE BAKER for sure! Jumpsuits! Diamonds! Shoes! Feathers!!! Oh – give me a week in that wardrobe… I am friends with one of her adopted sons, Jean Clause, I used to play Josephine in NYC, and my biggest regret is not going to visit him at home because he said he would show me her wardrobe! May be one day..
