Tell us your name and where you are from?

My name is Rinny and I’m the best all the DJs want to…I was in the middle of enjoying clips from “Coming to America” when I started this interview!

How long have you been natural?

Tricky question, my last relaxer was in October of 2007. From there, I did some hard core transitioning and cut off the remnants of the relaxed ends in March of 2009. Since I didn’t big chop, I don’t know what’s the appropriate answer to give here… :/

What do you do? Is there a resistance or compatibility with your hair in your field of work?

I’m still working on my degree! I also run the newly opened MissRiot.com store which specializes in vintage clothing and accessories of my own kooky design. Outside of that, I’m a radio intern, actress and dancer in an electro pop band, here in L.A.

Describe your hair.

My hair is very THICK. Beauticians would complain about this when I was a kid but now I complain. It’s fairly curly. The hair type system confuses me but I believe I’m a 4a? Is there a specialist that I can see that could confirm this? It shrinks unexpectedly. Tuesday my hair will be Chaka Khan huge; but on Saturday it will be the size of a cotton ball.

What is your regimen?

I had a fairly routine regimen in the past. Now I don’t. I just try to deep condition and detangle once a week. In the summer however, I like to co-wash daily and keep my hair in a bun because L.A. summers are full of dry heat.

What is your best hair advice?

My best hair advice would definitely be to Leave Your Hair Alone sometimes! Hair growth is a fairly natural thing and it’s probably going to happen with or without the vitamins and all sorts of products that are labeled “Gro” Oh and use heat sparingly! When I first began to wear my hair out I would blow it out after EVERY single wash. I just longed for big hair and it most likely caused more damage in the long run.

What is the strangest comment, request or hair story?

Usually, I get the “soul sister”, “afro-centric”, “neo-soul” references, and every now and then I’m labeled a “hipster” because of my hair. A few people on at Venice Beach have thrown their fists in the air when they see me. It kind of makes me feel awkward because I don’t know if I’m supposes to throw a fist back or a peace sign or quote a scene from “Black Dynamite?

How would you describe your personal fashion style?
I’d say my personal fashion style is a little bit of everything. But I’d like to think that, I’m a girl that just really loves chiffon and combat boots!

When it comes to your style who, what or where does your inspiration come from?
For style inspiration, I just look at real people. I know I can’t wear everything in a magazine editorial. (Okay maybe I would try but it isn’t always a transferable style.) I go to a lot of concerts here in L.A. and I mainly draw my inspiration from the people I see there. Also 90s’ movies such as The Craft and Clueless are serving as inspiration for my current wardrobe.

Do you have a blog/website?

Yes, I have http://www.MissRiot.com and now a tumblr that I still don’t really understand too well: rinnyriot.tumblr.com

Anything else?

Like we say in Texas, “The bigger the hair, the closer to God!”

What makes you an Urban Bush Babe?

I’m an Urban Bush Babe because Sheneneh don’t want no parts of this!
