Tell us your name and where you are from?
Hi I’m Sunita and I was born and raised in Wisconsin and currently live in NYC.
How long have you been natural?
I’ve never had a relaxer but I have made the terrible decision to get many blow outs and right now I am currently 7 months no heat!
What do you do? Is there a resistance or compatibility with your hair in your field of work?
I blog full time so no there is no resistance with my hair and I think my big hair helps set me apart
Describe your hair.
Big, thick & wild!
What is your hair regimen?
I have a very low maintenance hair regiment and actually that applies to my overall beauty regiment. Less is more. I condition my hair as much as possible, in the warmer seasons I condition everyday and air-dry but now that it’s getting colder I limit how often I wet my hair to 3-4 times a week. I’m a big fan of leave-in conditioners and I really like Kinky Curl Knot Today for a daily moisturizer.
What are the three biggest factors you attribute to your length?
Pretty much my mom. Lol. My mom is amazing at doing hair, she was taught by a family member that owned a salon in the south. Growing up my mom did mine and my sisters hair until we were about 12-13 years old ( we all have long & thick hair and it was too much for us to do on our own) and we kept our hair in braids until we were about 15- 16 years old so we were wearing our hair in ‘protective styles’ for many many years which I think can help anyone with any type of hair with hair growth. Eating right and daily moisturizing helps too!
What is your usual go to style?
If I’m not wearing it down then I throw it up in a messy bun thing.
What is your nighttime routine?
Throwing it up, if I had the energy I would separate it in sections and braid it.
Your top three favorite products and why?
1. Kinky Curl Knot Today leave-in conditioner
2. Aphogee conditioners
3. Pantene Pro-v curl perfection conditioner
I like products that aren’t heavy and won’t weigh my hair down.
Your best hair advice?
Let your hair breath, less is more and don’t over-work it.
Ultimate hair crush
My younger sister
What is the strangest comment, request or hair story?
Probably growing up most of my life thinking my natural hair is ugly.. I grew up in Wisconsin so..
How would you describe your personal fashion style?
What ever mood I’m in. I like to switch it up with textures and colors, since living in NYC I wear quite a bit of black but I love color!
What advice would you give to people who might be afraid to show their true fashion sense or natural hair for fear of being judged by others?
Omg, I know exactly how this feels. I hated my natural hair and I was sooo scared to start a blog because I was so worried about what bad things others would think but it feels amazing to be naturally me! And I am so thankful for my hair, my blog, life, do not dwell on negative thoughts because it’s all good and it feels amazing to do something I enjoy! The good always seem to out-weigh the bad.
What would you say to others who judge individuals negatively for their personal fashion style
Usually negative judgement comes from insecurities so big hug to you and I hope your day goes better where you don’t need to take it out on others who are living life and loving it!
Favorite stores and places to shop for vintage or thrift
Salvation Army on West 48th st, Buffalo Exchange and Crossroads are amazing.
Most embarrassing moment
When I’m trying to do my best New Yorker power walk on the sidewalk and spill my coffee down my coat! It happens often, I need to remind myself to slow down, lol.
What is your favorite life lesson
I learned from my mom, you should never be unhappy, if you are, change it! Whether its the place you are physically in, the people, a party etc… Listening to that has brought me to where I am now and I love it.
Current music playlist and favorite book
I listen to a lot of pop music! More than anyone should. But I never get tired of hearing Michael Jackson, Sam Smith, Lauryn Hill. I also like to look up Swedens top 40 list, they have great musicians, Robyn and Loreen are two of my favs.
I recently read Remember The Time: Protecting Michael Jackson in his Final days which was written by two of his bodyguards and as a huge fan it was a interesting and fast read, I read the whole book in a couple of hours.
Favorite restaurant and dish you would not want to live without
My moms cooking and chicken tikka masala with mango lassi.
Do you have a workout/exercise routine? If so, what is your routine?
My workout is navigating through these NY streets
Do you have a blog/website?
